BALI DAY 2

Good day to you, my non-existent readers! I'm back to update more about my Bali trip.
Starting with a view of the sea from our villa! Now that I think of it, I really shouldn't complain so much; whether it's a lousy trip or not, it was still a getaway and there are people who didn't get to go on a holiday! So yep, shall APPRECIATE the trip although it really wasn't fabulous.

Left the resort at 11am in the morning! We asked to meet our driver at 10am but he was an hour late -.-
Haha, when we asked him why he was late he muttered some stuff we couldn't understand so yea, decided to let it go anyway.
Our agenda for day 2 was to visit Ubud for the famous Babi Guling and Crispy Bebek, to Kintamani to see an active volcano and to Tanah Lot for some seafood.
BUT, our driver cum guide suggested another route which is to go to Kintamani for a buffet lunch, back to Ubud for some light shopping then head to a local market, go for a massage and have some other Babi Guling (not the famous one) for dinner.

On our way to Kintamani, we went by this Batik factory? Kinda. They sell beautiful handmade Batik clothes and accessories like bags/coin pouches, etc. Don't come cheap! The prices are around 27-30 USD per top/dress/shirt? Yep.. Didn't buy anything from here.

After about 2hours plus of car ride, we finally reached Kintamani and it was pouring. Apparently, the buffet restaurant is quite popular with tourists! Or should I say it's the only restaurant in sight when we got there? The buffet is about maybe $14 SGD per person? The spread was fine for the price I guess? But the taste wasn't fantastic. :( Maybe we just couldn't get used to the local food there.

Piled up our plates because we skipped breakfast and didn't expect our next meal to be hours away! Was really starving. Hmm, there was mee goreng, nasi goreng, satay, some fried veges, vege tempura, fried POTATO (OHHH YEAAAAA...spammed the potatos), goreng pisang, etc etc.

A view from the restaurant! Can't see much because it was raining. Gee. Really 天不作美.

Next! We went to Ubud! I think it's pretty famous for the rice terrace? I went to google Ubud to check my spelling and the images are all something like the one below. I didn't take it from google! It really was this pretty! (Y)

Went shopping along the small town! They sell A LOT OF Batik and KNITTED WEAR!!! But mostly tank tops and dresses. All hand made and some were quite expensive! I bought a black knitted tank for $7! ^^

Shopping at shops like these in Bali is really good! You can really bargain the prices! And if you make a gesture to leave the shop they will decrease the price incredibly low, even though you didn't request for such a low price. So it all comes down to your acting skills, remember to unleash your inner auntie. ;)

The roads are pretty dangerous. There are no traffic lights so you've got to stay alert and keep your eyes opened! Plus, the road can only barely squeeze two cars alongside so there isn't really a space for people to walk.

Left Ubud because our guide said that all the things sold there can be found at the local market!!
I don't know the exact location of the local market that he brought us to but it was really big! Although the stuff sold were repetitive and after walking like one round you'll get really tired.
It looks messy and rundown but it's definitely a good place to buy souvenirs and local goods! :)

Mummy is so good at bargaining!

After the local market, we went to a Ralph Lauren shop and I bought a tote for half the price in SG!
I got it for $120USD and paid about $150+ for it. A good deal, because the usual price of the bag was said to be, Idk, $200+?

Next, we went to a place called Rose Garden for massage! Our guide told us it's incredibly cheap blah blah blah. No it wasn't haha. But we still went for it anyway, paid 40USD per person for a 2 hour session.
I tried the volcanic stone massage and it was good! Although at some point I had to stop the masseurs because of how ticklish it was, and they kept giggling. Yes "they", two masseurs per person!

Finally, having done our massage and shopping, we went to try the famous BABI GULING! It's actually roast pork.
Ok, before we went on our trip, we had people telling us how Babi Guling is the best roast pork EVER, how it's so crispy and delicious that it's a must-try if we go to Bali.
Hence, we set our expectations so high that we were deeply disappointed!!!
What we had in mind was a dish, not like caifan. And the roast pork was MEH! Really, the skin is so hard it's difficult to bite it into half and below the supposedly crispy skin was a layer of white fats. It wasn't nice at all! :(
The other meat was mediocre as well... LE SIGH, maybe if we went to the Ubud one it might have been good? Because our guide brought us to one which is like a roadside stall which explains the quality (probably). Or maybe this is how it's supposed to taste like and we're just not used to it. :(
Well according to the guide, "In the Bali, the Babi Guling many many."
So how do we find a really dope one among the many many places selling it?

Some random bottled drinks. I like glass bottled drinks! :D

So anyway! We headed home after the unsatisfying meal and after getting some bread from breadtalk at a shopping mall (for our breakfast next day). And look! My sis' friend prepared this for us because he is a pastry chef.

And here was my loot for the day. All the cute little bath buddies are souvenirs that I brought back! :D

Shall end my post here. Check back for Day3+4!
